P4 The design Lab

Exploring materials

Children have been exploring about the different materials we have around us.

Bristol class created an interactive museum where objects of all kinds are classified according to their properties. They recognised the different properties and identified the different materials such as wood, metal, plastic, glass, wool, soft, hard and transparent.

On a class discussion, there was a question that came up from the students” ‘Where does the wool come from?’. We, then used different strategies to investigate, and find out the process of creating wool.

Through this unit, children are putting into practice their creativity to experiment with mud. They have used different materials such as pebbles, shells, sticks, leaves, colour woollen balls and different tools to shape the mud into different shapes.

It has been such an enriching experience, which has nurture children’s creativity, encouraging them to learn about the different properties in a fun an interactive way.
